Founder

My story

I enjoy doing voluntary work and making a difference in society. Having the ability to help those less fortunate than ourselves and hopefully being able to provide a sense of hope for families and individuals is what motivates me in wanting to do this. From a very young age, I have dedicated my time to helping others with the intention of making a positive impact to their lives. I am a passionate, ambitious and determined individual who believes anything is possible if you put your mind to it. I get a lot of joy and satisfaction helping those around me and putting a smile on other people’s faces.

Her Majesty The Queen has awarded me with the British Empire Medal (BEM) in the Birthday 2020 Honours List. It is unbelievable to be recognised for my passion in voluntary and charitable services over the years in the UK and abroad. Words cannot describe how I am feeling right now. This is really overwhelming. It is such an honour to receive this prestigious award.

Throughout the years I have undertaken various voluntary / charity work both in the UK and overseas (Tanzania and Nepal) and raised money for charity. I believe in a hands on approach when it comes to reaching out and helping others. Poverty Pound will ensure that the money raised will go towards helping improve the quality of life for many people in England.

Please donate and support me in my passion and drive in making a difference to the lives of those less fortunate.

Your £ will help make a difference

Thank you.

Previous charity work

Prior to Poverty Pound being set up as a registered charity, below are a few examples of charity work I have undertaken. As a charity, with the money raised, we will be able to reach out to more people and help those less fortunate in the UK.

Tanzania 2015/16

In November 2015, I decided to leave my job and put my professional qualification on hold in order to spend 3 months volunteering in Tanzania. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity and my chance to play a part in fighting poverty, improving the lives of others and creating long lasting positive change.

One of my personal wishes whilst being in Tanzania was to reach out to the poor and generally the less fortunate members of the community. I knew that this was not part of the programme, but the objective of this activity was to buy food and ingredients (using my own money) for a group of people and eat with them.

The project officer found suitable groups for me to carry out what I wanted. The groups were;

  • Elders

  • Disabled

  • Street children

Spending quality time with the group of elders was so heartwarming and rewarding. A simple smile goes a long way. It is hard to describe the emotions I felt during that day, but I was just so happy that it was made possible.

Events / Fundraising

Stay tuned for some exciting fundraising events and a charity launch event once things have settled due to the pandemic of Covid-19 and once it is safe to do so.

In these unprecedented times, many people need our help and support. Despite not being able to organise events, you can still support Poverty Pound by donating today.

Your £ will help make a difference.

Thank you.

London Marathon 2020

Charity Pre-launch event

The virtual 2020 Virgin Money London Marathon took place on Sunday 4 October and participants had 23 hours 59 minutes and 59 seconds to complete the 26.2 miles, which they had a choice of completing by either running, walking or jogging – making the event the most inclusive London Marathon ever.

This might have been another one of my crazy ideas, but seemed like a good one at the time of securing a place. I successfully completed this tough and grueling challenge. For more details and to donate, please click on the button below.

Pam Ritoo

Trustee

From a very young age, my dad taught us to live by his motto "help who you can without expecting anything in return"

When I moved to the UK, I got help from so many unexpected avenues. Whenever I would hit the rock bottom, new doors would unexpectedly open. These experiences would remind me of my dad's motto.

For years, I have been doing my little share of charity work where I could. I believe it is now time for me to focus more on this part of my life that gives me so much joy and contentment, What better way to do so than joining my friend Bharat in his mission "to fight poverty".

Jaikishan Patel

Trustee

I am truly honoured to a be a part of this charity which aims to fight poverty in the UK.

For a long time I have seen how there has been a gradual increase in the poverty line which is a real issue not just for the people involved but everyone in this country. Myself and the team are committed to doing everything we can to help make a difference and I am sure that we will positively impact many lives. I hope that you can support us in any way possible. Unite. Support. Provide.

The charity will provide goods and services to those individuals who are living in poverty through basic provisions such as clothing items, sleeping bags, toiletries and food. We will engage with local organisations, local councils to identify those individuals in need. The charity will also provide street feed services and food banks in the future.

Poverty Pound believes that every human being is important and we pride ourselves on being a charity for everyone who is in poverty or in need of extra support. We do not discriminate or refuse to assist anyone based on age, gender, sexual orientation, disability, race or religion etc.

Every pound will help tackle poverty, make a difference in society and to the lives of others. Due to the current economic climate and pandemic of Covid-19, individuals are faced with tough times ahead and limited disposable income. Poverty Pound is a charity that is inclusive of all and shows that even a small donation of just a pound will go a long way. Collectively we can and we will make a difference. Furthermore, if people are unable to donate financially, there are other ways to get involved and feel involved with this charity (for example, but not limited to: donating items for the food hampers, volunteering opportunities etc). For more information, please get in contact with us.

Please help spread the message and share the website with friends and family.

Thank you for your support.
